Who We Are

Founded in 1999, AVIVA is an independent, non-profit association based in Monts, France. Since our creation, our mission has remained clear and focused: to make the art and science of relational communication accessible to all.

Relational communication is more than a set of techniquesโ€”it is a way of understanding, interacting with, and valuing others. At AVIVA, we believe that effective communication has the power to improve relationships, resolve conflicts, build trust, and create stronger personal, professional, and community bonds. We exist to help individuals, families, organizations, and communities learn how to communicate with clarity, empathy, and respect.

Over the years, AVIVA has become a reference point for those seeking structured, thoughtful, and practical approaches to interpersonal communication. Our training sessions, workshops, publications, and educational resources are designed to serve a wide audienceโ€”from students and teachers to caregivers, team leaders, parents, and anyone interested in improving their relational skills.

Our Identity

AVIVA is not affiliated with any political, religious, or commercial organization. Our independence is essential to the integrity of our work. We are driven by a deep respect for human dignity and the belief that every personโ€”regardless of age, background, or life situationโ€”can benefit from better communication.

Our name, AVIVA, is derived from the Latin root “vivere,” meaning “to live.” We chose it because we view relational communication not as an isolated skill but as something deeply woven into how we live, grow, and connect with others. Communication is not simply what we sayโ€”itโ€™s how we listen, how we respond, and how we build mutual understanding. It is alive, dynamic, and essential to human well-being.

We bring this philosophy to everything we do.

Our Team and Expertise

AVIVA is supported by a dedicated team of communication trainers, educators, and facilitators, each with extensive experience in various fields including psychology, pedagogy, mediation, social work, and group facilitation. What unites us is a shared conviction that communication can transform livesโ€”not only by resolving tension and misunderstanding but by opening space for growth, creativity, and genuine connection.

Our training team regularly updates its methods and content to integrate new research in relational communication, behavioral science, and education. We also collaborate with researchers and field practitioners to make sure our work is relevant, respectful, and rooted in proven approaches.

While our core team is small and agile, we rely on a trusted network of volunteers and occasional contributors who bring fresh perspectives and diverse expertise to our activities.

Our Audience

AVIVA serves a wide and diverse public. Our approach is intentionally inclusive and designed to adapt to the needs of various audiences:

  • Educators and school staff who want to create more harmonious classroom environments
  • Parents and caregivers seeking better communication with children and adolescents
  • Healthcare and social professionals looking to strengthen their relational approach with clients or patients
  • Non-profit and community workers who want to foster cooperation and trust
  • Individuals who simply wish to improve their everyday communication with others

We believe communication training should not be reserved for corporate teams or specialized professionals. Everyone deserves access to tools that can help them express themselves clearly and listen to others more fully.

What We Offer

AVIVA offers a range of services and activities designed to spread knowledge and practice of relational communication:

  • In-person and online training programs: From introductory sessions to advanced workshops, our trainings focus on active listening, conflict resolution, non-violent communication, group dynamics, assertiveness, and more.
  • Customized interventions: We work with institutions, schools, associations, and other organizations to deliver tailored communication support and training for their staff, students, or members.
  • Educational resources: We produce articles, guides, handouts, and toolkits to help individuals apply communication principles in their daily lives. These resources are practical, accessible, and adaptable to various contexts.
  • Awareness and outreach events: Through conferences, seminars, and community talks, we raise awareness of the importance of relational communication and its role in building healthier societies.

All our activities are designed to be participatory and experiential. We believe people learn best by doingโ€”by practicing real communication scenarios, receiving supportive feedback, and engaging in meaningful dialogue.

Our Values

At the heart of AVIVAโ€™s work are several guiding values:

  • Empathy: The ability to see the world through anotherโ€™s eyes is the foundation of meaningful communication.
  • Respect: We honor the uniqueness of each individual and believe in communication that preserves dignity.
  • Clarity: We value transparency and honesty, expressed with tact and kindness.
  • Inclusion: We welcome people of all backgrounds, cultures, and communication styles.
  • Lifelong learning: Communication is a skill that can always be refined, deepened, and reimagined. We are committed to ongoing growth.

These values shape how we work internally, how we teach, and how we relate to the people and communities we serve.

Why It Matters

In a world marked by fast-paced change, increasing social complexity, and widespread misunderstanding, relational communication is not a luxuryโ€”it is a necessity. Miscommunication is at the root of countless conflicts, missed opportunities, and broken relationships. But the good news is that communication can be learned, practiced, and improved.

By helping people develop stronger relational communication skills, AVIVA contributes to healthier families, more collaborative workplaces, more inclusive schools, and more compassionate communities. We believe that improving the way we relate to each other can have a ripple effect, strengthening not only individual lives but the very fabric of society.

Looking Ahead

As AVIVA continues to evolve, we remain committed to expanding access to communication training and building bridges across differences. We are always exploring new ways to meet the needs of our audiencesโ€”through technology, new partnerships, and fresh educational formats.

But no matter how we grow, we remain rooted in the same core belief: that communication, when practiced with intention and care, can change the way we live and relate to one another.
